These pitons are imperfect vintage climbing hardware from 1972 and 1973. The pitons have not been used previously, but begun to rust some over the past 50 years. We have cleaned the rust off the pitons by tumbling them around a cement mixer filled with sand. We have finished them with a quick hand polish, and have also added protective layers of either black ceramic engine enamel, black primer and Rustolium, or a grey cast iron coating.
Climbing is dangerous and these pitons are 50 years old. In the wild, you might have had to clip one of these bad boys, or you might still find them in cracks on your adventures!
Sean here: These pitons are not just for gifting and decoration! These pitons may be used for aid climbing and fixing ropes on high mountain expeditions. These pitons will NOT last forever! I do not recommend taking a fall multiple times on these pitons, as they are not recommended for arresting frequent falls over many seasons. I would also not rely on them for many seasons in the high mountains.
You are responsible for inspecting each piton if you choose to use them in climbing or other technical environments. They are imperfect, old, and the coatings will come off with use.
Pitons are $20 each
